TRENDS SUMMER 2010

RAINBOW COLORS VERSUS WHITE

Spring fashion started out soft and discrete in navy blue and soft tones. High summer is a lot more colorful. Orange brings a warm glow while green displays itself in every shade. Merry tutti-frutti colors pull out all the stops. And of course, there is white.

WHITE: SERENE OR IN VIVID CONTRAST

Serene white goes side by side with the trend of lightness and transparency. Poplin cotton in optic white reflects pure freshness, while transparent voiles in linen or silk bring a sensual touch.
White is either presented in plain silhouettes, as part of a layers’ look or combined with bright colors. As part of the marine style, white is used in sharp contrast with navy blue or black.
In accessories, we also find plenty of white. White shoes and ditto bags are brightened up by means of metal spikes or strass. Silver jewels are enriched with natural pearls. Pearl necklaces ‘à la Chanel’ are back in vogue and reflect timeless class. White shells and stones and even white plums hang on to the eco-trend.
White sunhats bring out a French Rivièra feeling, which makes the holiday picture complete.

GREEN, FROM POWERFUL KHAKI TO EXOTIC SHADES

Green keeps on dominating fashion in all its shades. Within the power fashion that lingers between army and safari, khaki is omnipresent, whether it is plain khaki linen or cotton or camouflage prints. Accessories like hats, belts, sneakers or bags in khaki canvas reinforce this look.
Bright shades of green in all their diversity are obviously inspired by the abundance of plants in the tropical rainforest and sometimes serve as background for exotic flower and plant prints. Watery green is more subtle and can be easily combined with darker shades of green. Wooden beads with obvious wood structure show green in its most natural way.

ORANGE IN WARM COLOR MIXES

Orange follows up yellow as trend color for the summer. This warm summer color is often combined with bright white or a darker shade of blue thus creating a sharp contrast.
Orange is also often spotted this summer as a bright touch in ethnic prints predominated in shades of brown. These ‘Terre d’Afrique’ prints are often used for light summer dresses and magnificent shawls.
Leather goods come in a range of cognac and orange. They remain very natural and flirt with the seventies.

EXUBERANT TUTTI-FRUTTI

How to bring a plain white silhouette to life? Add some accessories in all the colors of the rainbow and it brings you in the mood for a garden or beach party.
This summer, the accessories mainly bring tutti-frutti colors to life. Think of custom jewelry in colorful beads or buttons, sunhats, espadrilles and canvas bags with stripes in rainbow colors. Dresses for summer, T-shirts and tunics create a lavish look with brightly colored stripes or checks, in that case combined with plain colored accessories.
